Town Board approves Basketball Backboards

After considering the Nhulunbuy Youth Councils proposal for the repurposing of two concrete pads that were previously green waste sites, the Nhulunbuy Town Board have approved that Basketball Backboards will be put on the Raintree and Pandanus Close sites in early 2021.

The Nhulunbuy Youth Council joined in the celebrations of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as a community, at the Nhulunbuy Corporation's / Rio Tinto collaborative NAIDOC Day event at the Nhulunbuy Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 11th November.

Australian Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns Awards 2020 Winners - Young Legends Group

It is with great pleasure we announce that the Nhulunbuy community has been rewarded with Young legends: Group category national awards from the recent Keep Australia Beautiful, Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards for 2020 for the Nhulunbuy Youth Council.

Amy Hetherington Workshop

The Nhulunbuy Youth Council invited Amy Hetherington to Nhulunbuy to conduct workshops on Youth Leadership and Using Social media to promote young people. Amy's energy was contagious which made a great afternoon of learning for each of our members.

RUOK Day 2020

Nhulunbuy Youth Council was proud to facilitate the RUOK Colour Run with the Nhulunbuy Primary School and the Nhulunbuy High School. Adam Drake from the Balanced Choice Programme was a very special guest of the Nhulunbuy Youth Council on this visit.

Good friend of the Nhulunbuy Youth Council, Adam Drake from Balanced Choice, visited Nhulunbuy as a guest of the Youth Council to participate in the RUOK Colour Run with Nhulunbuy High School students. Adam also gave a inspiring and motivating speech to students, met with SRC leadership group, teachers and conducted a workshop with Nhulunbuy Youth Council members around confidence, self-esteem and public speaking.

“Marrkap’mi Wäŋa Nhulunbuy” (My Sweet Home Nhulunbuy)

A cross-cultural school holiday collaboration of epic proportions, “Marrkap’mi Wäŋa Nhulunbuy” (My Sweet Home Nhulunbuy) sees some Arnhem Land’s hottest talent team up with the local youth to make this positive new song and film clip. The Nhulunbuy Djamarkuḻi (Nhulunbuy Kids in the local Yolŋu Matha) is the artist name the group decided on, consisting of 29 Yolngu (Indigenous) and Balanda (non-Indigenous) youth of Nhulunbuy aged between 10 and 18 years of age. The project, delivered by the Nhulunbuy Corporation in conjunction with Aris & Grimes, with big thanks to the Office of Youth Affairs - NT Government for the funding in association with the Nhulunbuy Youth Council.

June Community Markets

Michael Gunner visited the June Community Markets, which was held at the Gove Boat Club, and members of the Nhulunbuy Youth Council were there to meet the NT Chief minister and thank him personally for the recent Department of Chief Minister grant that the Nhulunbuy Youth Council were recipients off.
